Bhaja Govindam

Birthday celebrations - 2007

"Boast not of youth, friends or wealth;
Time steals each of them faster than eyes can wink.
Abjure this illusion of the world and join yourself to timeless truth."

Jagadguru Sree Adi Sankara extols the common man to live the life in pursuit of the absolute truth through the immortal verses of "Bhaja Govindam". The highest principles of Vedanta have been condensed into these verses and made immortal through M S Subbulakshmi's voice and is listened and chanted by innumerable people for their heart's solace.

It has only been less than a century since Adi Sankara's birthplace was identified as Kalady in Ernakulam, Kerala and proper monument and temple built near the bank of river "Purna". This year's Sankara Jayanthi falls on May 9.

  3. Its been a long time since I put a blog as I was (and still am) busy with my exams. Hey Krishna, Periyar was known as Poorna in ancient times. Hence I used that name as it was used in Adi Sankara's times. I know that you posted that comment just to make me mention that ;-) Thanks for the comments :-)

  4. I told its on the bank of "Periyar River". That doesnt means its not Purna River. And also the "Purna" is generally using not "Poorna"

  6. Hai Raman

    You are correct Purna is the ancient name of the river Periyar. Adi Sankara and in his time the river known as Purna only but now a days most of the peoples even may be local natives of Kaladay dont know the name Purna. Your blog you are published for the peoples both for your time and coming generation. So its better to mention ancient name of the Periyar river as Purna otherwise it will confuse the readers. And Krishna is right, Purna thats what the Adi Sankara's followers use to pronounce the name of the holy river not "Poorna". You can see the official website of Kalday Adi. Sankara madom for the reference

RxPG - A great forum for medical students

The best internet meeting place for Indian medical students is undoubtedly RxPG Online . It claims to be the largest community website for medical students on the web which in my opinion is right at least in the Indian context. The website features extremely vibrant forums and discuss about almost all postgraduate medical tests. The forums are well moderated and the news team keeps the members updated about any news relevant to the medical students. There are many useful free downloads and tools which are helpful to any medical student aspiring for PG medical education. It is a nice resource to keep in touch with fellow students and also to relax by participating in the conversation threads in the Offbeat section. Tags: Raman , rxpg , forums
